Hi {contactfield=firstname},

From My Desk...

Each week, I’ll be sharing a little about what’s happening in my world—whether it’s in my role as a cardiologist, the work I’m doing with the Healthy Heart Network and our new Healthy Life Network, or even personal updates from my family and life. My goal is to give you a closer look at what’s been keeping me busy, while also sharing tips and insights to help you on your own heart health journey. I hope you enjoy these updates and find them helpful as you strive to live well and stay healthy.

From My Desk...

Each week, I'll be sharing a little about what's happening in my world — whether it's in my role as a cardiologist, the work I'm doing with the Healthy Life Network, or even personal updates from my family and life. My goal is to give you a closer look at what's been keeping me busy, while also sharing tips and insights to help you on your own health journey. I hope you enjoy these updates and find them helpful as you strive to live well and stay healthy.

Hello and welcome to the Healthy Life Network.

This week has been a quieter one by necessity — and a meaningful one because of it.

I've been recovering from surgery, and I want to be open with you about that. The outcome has been genuinely favourable, and I'm grateful. I don't wish to share too much detail, but I'm now focused on giving my body the time and support it needs to do what it does best — heal. It's a good reminder that the very principles I talk about each week — sleep, nutrition, stress reduction, movement — matter most when you need them most. I had my first day back at work this week, slow and steady.

Recovery also creates space to think. And this week, there has been a lot worth thinking about.

Family & Personal

It's been a week of simple, meaningful moments — and those are often the ones that stay with you.

Good friends, Jen and Michael, came to visit on Friday evening. That kind of presence and warmth during a difficult time is something you value.

Max and his partner Katie joined Chelle and me for dinner on Thursday, this was relaxed, easy, and genuinely enjoyable. Max has since headed back to Townsville, though not before fitting in a hunting adventure in the Tasmanian Highlands with his cousin. Quintessentially Tasmanian.

Chelle has been my anchor throughout all of this. I'm very grateful.

Business Updates

OsteoStrong Hobart

Things have continued to move at OsteoStrong while I've been recovering, which is a credit to the team. We're currently in the process of transitioning from the OsteoStrong Australia marketing platform to the new OsteoStrong International platform — an exciting development that will hopefully open up much better tools and reach. We're also actively working on making the service more financially accessible, including a membership model designed specifically for those who face genuine financial challenges. Osteogenic loading should be available to everyone who needs it, not just those who can easily afford it.

We're also in the process of bringing on a part-time marketing and sales person, which I'm very excited about. Growing the reach of OsteoStrong Hobart in a consistent, focused way requires dedicated attention, and that's exactly what we're building toward.

Longevity Labs IV

The energy upstairs has been fantastic. Ella has been doing an incredible job with our organic social media presence — we've now surpassed 1,000 followers, which is a genuine milestone and a reflection of the work she has put in. Sean has been equally impressive, managing logistics, booking systems, and the overall flow of the business with real skill and commitment. And Sarah, our nurse, continues to deliver a level of care that we are truly proud of — compassionate, professional, and genuinely centred on each person who walks through the door.

We're also actively exploring a strategic alliance with a number of local businesses including Anytime Fitness, which is an exciting conversation, more on that as it develops.

Looking ahead, we're starting to bring hot and cold exposure into the offering, and VO2 Max testing and training is now firmly on the horizon. Paul Riley — one of our coaches from OsteoStrong, and a high-level athlete himself — is driving the VO2 Max initiative with real expertise and genuine enthusiasm. This is going to be a meaningful addition.

Breath Lab — Pivotal Wellbeing

Jen has been working incredibly hard to build something special with our breathwork offering. This week she put together a beautiful session for mothers in recognition of Mother's Day — a lovely touch. She's also developing more structured programs and packages to help people address anxiety, improve sleep, and find a genuine sense of calm and wellbeing.

One thing that makes Breath Lab particularly special is the 9D experience — a remarkable technology that uses nine different modalities delivered through headphones to guide people through meditative, breathwork, and conscious and unconscious experiences. It is genuinely extraordinary. We have an open day coming up very soon — I encourage you to come along, experience it for yourself, or bring someone who would benefit. If you'd like to know more, visit us at Pivotal Wellbeing, Longevity Labs, or LLIV — or simply reply to this email.

This Week's Podcast — EP438

🎙️ EP438: What on Earth is EECP — and How Can It Help? Listen here: https://drwarrickbishop.com/podcast/episode/1/ep438-what-on-earth-is-eecp-and-how-can-it-help

EECP — Enhanced External Counterpulsation — is one of the most fascinating and underutilised therapies in cardiovascular medicine. In this episode, I speak with a passionate advocate who is working to advance EECP broadly across the US and beyond.

If you've never heard of EECP, I promise you'll find this one genuinely eye-opening. If you have heard of it, you'll understand why I find it so compelling. This is the kind of conversation that reminds me why I love what I do. I highly encourage you to have a listen.

Available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, YouTube, and all major platforms.

For those of you who have been following along with NuCalm, I want to draw your attention to something particularly useful — the Rescue Program.

Quiz Corner

Last week's answer:

The question was: What are the three to five most significant risk factors for Alzheimer's disease?

The evidence points to several key factors:

Age — the single strongest risk factor. The risk roughly doubles every five years after the age of 65.

Genetics — particularly the APOE ε4 gene variant, which significantly increases risk. Family history also plays a role.

Cardiovascular risk factors — high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, obesity, and physical inactivity are all independently associated with increased Alzheimer's risk. What's bad for the heart is often bad for the brain.

Poor sleep — emerging evidence strongly links chronic sleep disruption to amyloid accumulation in the brain, the hallmark of Alzheimer's pathology.

Social isolation and low cognitive engagement — reduced stimulation across the lifespan appears to reduce cognitive reserve, increasing vulnerability.

The hopeful note: several of these are modifiable. The same lifestyle choices that protect your heart protect your brain.

This week's question:

Can you name three things that may be potentially detrimental to mitochondrial function?

Have a think. I'll share answers next week.

Final Reflection

It's been a week of recovery, connection, and quiet gratitude.

The businesses are moving. Good people are doing great work. Friends showed up. Family was close.

And somewhere in the middle of all of that, I've been reminded again of something I believe deeply — that the quality of our lives is built not just in the big moments, but in the small ones. Dinner around the table. Friends at the door.

Everything else is built on that foundation.

Warm regards,
