Hi {contactfield=firstname},
From My Desk...

My goal is to give you a closer look at what’s been keeping me busy, while also sharing tips and insights to help you on your own heart health journey. Each week, I'll be sharing a little about what's happening in my world — whether it's in my role as a cardiologist, the work I'm doing with the Healthy Life Network, or even personal updates from my family and life. My goal is to give you a closer look at what's been keeping me busy, while also sharing tips and insights to help you on your own health journey. Hello and welcome to the Healthy Life Network.
This week moved quickly — in a good way. Good science, good people, and a lot of things building at once. It's nice to be back to close to full pace.
Family & Personal
I had a catch up with my friend Michael midweek. We went along to the Uni Revue and had a great night.
Max has headed back to Townsville, where he's working as a concreter while supporting Katie through her university studies. It's good to know he's applying himself and doing well.
Ella continues to impress managing university assignments and exams while creating content for Longevity Labs. She doesn't miss a beat.
Sean is also doing a great job between two businesses and bringing a very valuable attention to detail to the centres.
A lovely night through the week, out celebrating Chelle's Dad Pete's birthday, lots of family, lots of reminiscing, lovely night.
Dad's birthday is coming up soon. We'll get organised and make it a special night. And in mid-June we've finally managed to bring together some friends for dinner... something that has taken nearly 18 months to arrange. We're very much looking forward to that.
Business Updates
OsteoStrong™ Hobart
Chelle is holding things together beautifully at OsteoStrong™ and doing a fantastic job with our short stay accommodation as well. Sean continues to grow in the business and lend a hand wherever needed.
We're genuinely excited to be exploring new marketing opportunities and working through different membership structures with the goal of making access to our service easier and more affordable for more people in the community.
And we are thrilled to be welcoming Chris to the team as a part-time marketer. Chris brings a background in teaching and Pilates, vibrant, intelligent, and genuinely motivated to help share what OsteoStrong™ can offer. She joins us in the next week or two and we're very much looking forward to having her on board.
Longevity Labs IV
Things are building nicely upstairs and the momentum is real.
We're seeing some genuinely meaningful results with NAD+, people reporting improvements in energy, general wellbeing, and even in the context of improving the odds of fertility. And one of our members who has been managing severe chronic fatigue has experienced a remarkable turnaround. That's exactly what this work is about.
Looking ahead, VO2 Max testing is firmly on the horizon. Keep an eye out for an upcoming podcast that will go into exactly why that number matters so much.
We're also exploring a heat and thermal solution, Sauna and cold plunge, but also specifically a device called the HOCATT, combining up to ten different health modalities including steam, infrared sauna, and ozone exposure. Fascinating technology and one that absolutely deserves its own episode. More to come.
Breath Lab
Jen is doing excellent work, building awareness, gaining traction, and delivering results. The breathwork offering continues to grow and find its audience. It's a genuinely powerful complement to everything else we offer upstairs.
Cardiology
It's been a delight to be back in clinic after a few weeks away. Last Friday I had the pleasure of having a medical student join me in the rooms. Those moments are always a highlight. The curiosity is infectious.
On Saturday I attended the Tasmanian Chapter of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand's annual scientific meeting, a genuinely excellent day. Local and national speakers, relevant and well presented content. I'm very much looking forward to bringing some of that material to the podcast in the weeks ahead. Keep an eye out for that.
This Week's Podcast — EP439
This one is important. I want to be direct about that.
Does stress cause cancer?
It's a question more people are asking and the evidence deserves a serious look. This is one of those episodes I'd encourage you not to scroll past. It's topical, it's relevant, and it's a conversation we should all be having.

Quiz Corner
Last week's answer:
The question was: Name three things that may be potentially detrimental to mitochondrial function.
There are several well supported answers here, including: chronic psychological stress, which elevates cortisol and disrupts mitochondrial signalling; poor sleep, which impairs the cellular repair processes mitochondria depend on; excessive alcohol consumption, which directly interferes with mitochondrial membrane function and energy production; sedentary behaviour, which reduces the stimulus for mitochondrial biogenesis; and environmental toxin exposure, including heavy metals and certain pesticides, which can damage mitochondrial DNA.
The encouraging flip side... exercise, good sleep, and a well-managed diet are among the most powerful things you can do to support mitochondrial health.
This week's question:
Kidney disease is more common and more silent than most people realise.
What is the most common cause of chronic kidney impairment in Australia?
Have a think. And if you haven't had your blood pressure checked recently, now is a good time. It's quick, it's simple, and the answer to this question might just tell you why.
I'll share the answer next week.
Final Reflection
Sitting in a room with colleagues on Saturday, having the chance to connect and reflect on the busyness of the week just gone, I was reminded of how privileged I am to be learning such important information. What a valuable space. And what a chance to then be able to share it with others and make a really meaningful difference in their lives.
I'm looking forward to bringing some of what I heard to the podcast in the weeks ahead.
