#90 — Forty Hours, One Kilometre, and a Week Worth Noting

24 Jun 2026

Each week, I'll be sharing a little about what's happening in my world — whether it's in my role as a cardiologist, the work I'm doing with the Healthy Heart Network and our new Healthy Life Network, or even personal updates from my family and life. My goal is to give you a closer look at what's been keeping me busy, while also sharing tips and insights to help you on your own heart health journey. I hope you enjoy these updates and find them helpful as you strive to live well and stay healthy.

It's been a week of travel, good conversations, and a personal milestone I'm pretty pleased with. Read on for all of it.

Family & Personal Highlights

I managed a 40 hour fast earlier in the week, no troubles at all. On Tuesday night I went along to a cardiometabolic dinner to learn more about cardiometabolic disease, always good to keep learning. Wednesday evening I caught up with Ella's boyfriend, Tallam, which was great.

Friday I flew up to Sydney, staying with my brother and his family, and had the chance to sit down with John to talk through plans for the Healthy Life Network. I head home today.

It was Dad's birthday recently. I made sure to see him a few weeks back, knowing I would be away in Sydney for the day itself. Happy birthday, Dad. Though I believe he was less than impressed watching Australia go down to the US.

Max continues to do well in Townsville, still working as a concreter and getting out on the boats on the Barrier Reef as often as he can. His girlfriend Katie is out there too, helping with diving. Ella is busy putting the final touches on preparations for the van trip with Tallam, lovely to see her so excited and focused.

Sean continues to do an outstanding job both upstairs and downstairs, and has put together an app for Longevity Labs called Vital Vault. It's going to be a genuinely useful tool, giving people a clear picture of the services they've used and their performance over time, particularly across things like VO2 Max.

Chelle has had a really good week, putting in the work to make sure the foundations are solid for both OsteoStrong™ Hobart and Longevity Labs.

On the health front, a good week for me. I swam a kilometre in a 25 metre pool without stopping. The week before, I swam the same distance with four breaks along the way. The week before that, I could only manage 250 metres. Small steps, but encouraging.

Professional & Business Updates

OsteoStrong™ Hobart Good things happening. Numbers built nicely this week. Our marketing goes back online tomorrow, we paused it briefly after being overrun with leads, and we've now caught up. Our new marketing team member, Chris, is being trained up to make calls and run discovery sessions.

Longevity Labs IV We're in the process of purchasing a HOCATT unit and an oxygen nanobubble spa for upstairs, and getting the branding for that business properly organised.

Breath Lab A fantastic number of sessions with Jen and her breathwork during the Dark Mofo reset, alongside strong uptake of the IV therapies we offered as part of our contribution to Dark Mofo.

EP443: Medication Apprehension

A look at why so many of us carry frustration, even resentment, toward the medications we're prescribed, and how shifting that to gratitude can change the relationship entirely. I share my own experience with glaucoma eye drops as an example. We also break down the only three types of medication side effects, anaphylactic, idiosyncratic, and dose-related, and why only the last of those is usually negotiable. A reminder that calm, collaborative conversations between doctor and patient lead to better outcomes than fear-driven decisions.

I also had the chance to record a two part podcast with my son, Max, on GLP-1 antagonists, something I'm genuinely excited about. It's only the second father and son podcast we've done. If you enjoy hearing what Max has to say, let me know, I'd love to know how it lands. Keep an eye out for the finale, releasing in a couple of weeks.

Quiz Corner

Last Week's Answer

The question was: when it comes to joint pain, two supplements come up again and again in the research. Can you name them?

The answer is glucosamine and chondroitin.

This Week's Question

This week we're talking gout.

  1. Who is most at risk of developing gout?

  2. How is gout diagnosed?

  3. What can be done about it?

Have a think, and we'll cover the answers next week.

Final Reflection

Progress rarely announces itself. A kilometre swum without stopping. A conversation with someone you haven't seen in a while. These small markers add up to something larger over time, if you let them.

Warm regards,
