Each week, I'll be sharing a little about what's happening in my world — whether it's in my role as a cardiologist, the work I'm doing with the Healthy Heart Network and our new Healthy Life Network, or even personal updates from my family and life. My goal is to give you a closer look at what's been keeping me busy, while also sharing tips and insights to help you on your own heart health journey. I hope you enjoy these updates and find them helpful as you strive to live well and stay healthy.
Subject: 🌴 Panama Old City, Family Catch-ups, Year-Ahead Plans, and a Fascinating Meds Podcast
Hello & welcome,
A warm hello this week from Panama. Chelle and I wandered the Old City — cobblestones, colour, and history everywhere — and we even squeezed in a Boquete rum tasting that absolutely justified an afternoon nap. We're now packing to head home for New Year's Eve in Hobart.
Family & Personal Highlights
Panama: exploring Casco Viejo (the Old City) has been a highlight — beautiful architecture and a living sense of history... Chelle bought a Panama hat in Panama.
Boquete: lovely dinner out after a rum tasting; highly educational… and highly nap-inducing.
Sean: great chat on Christmas — he enjoyed the day with his grandfather and dad.
Ella: travelled to northern NSW to spend time with her Grandpa Phil and family.
Max: had an unexpected few days back in Hobart and is now safely returned to "paradise" in Samoa.
Hobart & Business Updates
OsteoStrong Hobart (OSH): looking forward to an exciting year ahead. Two new team members have settled in beautifully, and momentum is good.
Longevity Lab IV (LLIV): continuing to grow steadily. Training, protocols, and patient experience are all shaping up well. Sarah is fantastic.
Longevity Labs (upstairs): full steam ahead.
Cholesterol Explained: down to the very final touches. Penny took a short, well-earned Christmas/New Year break and then we're into the final pass.
Learning / Conference Pearls
Travel reminder: hydration, movement breaks, and light exposure do more than most people realise to keep circadian rhythm and energy in check.
Systems thinking: as we roll into 2026, simple, consistent habits still beat complicated programs — especially for bone, muscle, metabolic health, and cardiac risk.

Episode 418 — Allergic vs Idiosyncratic vs Tolerance (and doing it naturally) Listen here: https://drwarrickbishop.com/podcast/episode/1/ep418-allergic-vs-idiosyncratic-vs-tolerance-and-doing-it-naturally A clear primer on three very different "reactions" people lump together. Worth a listen if you've ever wondered why a prior medication "didn't agree" with you.

Quiz Corner
Last week's answer: The commonly discussed MTHFR variant is C677T (A1298C is another). A practical "functional" blood marker for folate status is homocysteine (alongside serum/RBC folate where appropriate).
This week's question: Early workers on the Panama Canal were devastated by which illness?
