Hi {contactfield=firstname},

From My Desk...

Each week, I’ll be sharing a little about what’s happening in my world—whether it’s in my role as a cardiologist, the work I’m doing with the Healthy Heart Network and our new Healthy Life Network, or even personal updates from my family and life. My goal is to give you a closer look at what’s been keeping me busy, while also sharing tips and insights to help you on your own heart health journey. I hope you enjoy these updates and find them helpful as you strive to live well and stay healthy.

Hello & welcome,

A warm hello this week from Talamanca on Costa Rica’s Caribbean side. Chelle and I are making our way toward Panama—warm evenings by the sea, swims between tropical downpours, and the kind of nature you feel in your bones.

Family & Personal Highlights
Costa Rica: howler monkeys, sloths, toucans, and those beautiful warm nights near the Caribbean. We even found some time in the water between rain showers.
Max: thriving in Samoa and finding meaningful ways to contribute to the local community.
Ella: has been a little under the weather but is turning the corner—we’re optimistic she’s on the improve.
Sean: bringing energy and focus to OsteoStrong Hobart and Longevity Labs—his drive on the marketing front is exciting to see.

Professional & Business Updates
Cholesterol Explained: we are so close it’s nearly ridiculous. The cover is in progress and looking great. A few final edits and the manuscript should be with John before year’s end, then on to the printer. If you’d like to be on the list for a special pre-release promotion, simply reply to this email and we’ll add you. I genuinely believe this will be a valuable resource for anyone wanting a balanced, practical understanding of cholesterol and statins.
Longevity Lab IV (LLIV): gaining traction—Sean and Sarah are delivering a high-quality service and building real momentum.
OsteoStrong Hobart: continuing to serve our community with strength, balance, and bone health at the core.

Holiday Note
We’re heading into the New Year, and I may take a short break. If there’s a pause in the newsletter, that’s why. Wishing you and your loved ones a restful, joyful festive season.

Quiz Corner
Last week’s answer:
The primary screening test most commonly used for prostate cancer is the PSA blood test. For average-risk men, many guidelines suggest starting PSA conversations around age 50, earlier for higher-risk groups such as those with a family history.

This week’s question:
What common MTHFR gene variant is most frequently discussed in relation to folate metabolism, and what simple blood test helps assess functional folate status?
