Hi {contactfield=firstname},

From My Desk...

Each week, I’ll be sharing a little about what’s happening in my world—whether it’s in my role as a cardiologist, the work I’m doing with the Healthy Heart Network and our new Healthy Life Network, or even personal updates from my family and life. My goal is to give you a closer look at what’s been keeping me busy, while also sharing tips and insights to help you on your own heart health journey. I hope you enjoy these updates and find them helpful as you strive to live well and stay healthy.

This week was another full and fast-paced one — filled with presentations, collaborations, and new opportunities. Here’s what unfolded:

🧘‍♂️ James Buckley Joins the Team
From Monday, we were joined by James Buckley, an expert in breathwork and meditation. He and his wife will be joining our OsteoStrong Hobart business, and we’re incredibly excited to welcome their energy and expertise into our growing team.

🏥 Sharing the Message of Bone and Heart Health

  • On Monday evening, I presented on bone health at the St. Luke’s Wellness Hub in central Hobart. The turnout was wonderful and the engagement fantastic — it’s always a pleasure to speak with people committed to their health journeys.

  • On Tuesday, I spoke via Zoom to two groups of GPs in Melbourne, focusing on cardiac failure and cholesterol management in high-risk patients — a reminder of the importance of foundational care.

  • That same evening, James and I co-hosted a Healthy Heart Network session on "Broken Heart Syndrome." It was a fascinating conversation on the interface between mind and body.

👁 A Bit of Personal Health Maintenance
On Wednesday, I had an eye ultrasound due to raised intraocular pressure (pre glaucoma). Thankfully, all appeared normal. And yes — it’s as strange as it sounds to have gel on your eyelids!

🏍 Heart Health & Motorcycles
That night, James and I spoke with the British Motorcycle Club of Tasmania. They've been running for 40 years and it was a delight to speak with them — especially since a few were already patients! We ended the night watching State of Origin (despite Chelle’s Queensland not getting over the line... roll on Game 2!).

💡 Expanding the Vision
Thursday was a big day. James and I explored the second floor of our current location — with exciting plans to expand into VO2 max training, mobility, hypertrophy, hot/cold therapy, IV infusions, and more. The idea is to create a full-spectrum vitality hub. It’s early days, but incredibly energizing.

💍 A Touch of Celebration
Friday saw Chelle and I attend a friend’s wedding. We were honoured to each do a reading — a beautiful occasion.

📅 Skipped a Conference, Gained a Milestone
Though I was scheduled to attend a medical conference in Melbourne, I stayed in Hobart to support Saturday’s major event…

🦴 Osteoporosis Awareness Open Day
To close Australia’s Osteoporosis Awareness Month, we held an open day at OsteoStrong. It was our biggest yet! Around 80 people registered for presentations, demonstrations, and one-on-one conversations about how we help with bone density, muscle strength, balance, and more. I spoke on deconditioning and musculoskeletal health, while James shared breathwork insights. Chelle and the team were phenomenal. We ran over time because people just didn’t want to leave. A truly inspiring day.

🎬 Looking Ahead
A quick update on the kids — Max has been soaking up his final weeks before Uni break with a few solid gym sessions, plenty of fishing talk (as always), and some exciting news — he’s just secured two jobs, one as a groundsman and another as a support worker. Ella has been working hard and recently delivered a fantastic presentation as part of her coursework. It’s been wonderful to see them both growing into their passions and responsibilities.

On Thursday night, we all had dinner at Chelle’s favourite Mexican restaurant — James, Chelle, and Ella joined, though Sean was tied up. A delicious and spicy evening all around!

Today, James flew back to Sydney. Chelle and I are catching up on correspondence while I dive into edits from Penny for Cholesterol Explained and prepare two talks for the upcoming World Congress of Clinical Lipidology in Austria. These next few weeks will be pivotal as we put the final touches on the book — which I’m thrilled to say is nearly ready to launch. And the WCCL is shaping up to be a fantastic platform to share and learn with some of the world’s best in lipidology.

Chelle and I leave this week, so it’s all systems go.

If we wrap in time, we might sneak off to see Mission: Impossible tonight.
