Hello and welcome to this week's Healthy Life Network.
A week of good company at home, steady progress at Longevity Lab, and a properly interesting podcast episode. Let's get into it.
Family & Personal Highlights
Chelle and I grabbed some Thai before heading out to a Fleetwood Mac string quartet tribute... a genuinely lovely night.
A fortnightly dinner with Sean, and an impromptu one with John and Rosie... always good company. Development is progressing steadily at the back of the property too.
Max and Katie are preparing to leave for Timor-Leste, just about ready to go. And Ella and Tallam are pushing on through South Australia... a bit of van trouble along the way, power steering issues and getting bogged more than once, but nothing that's slowed their spirits. Last I heard they were camped on an isolated beach on the Yorke Peninsula, heading toward WA or NT, dogs loving every minute of it.
Professional & Business Updates
OsteoStrong™ Hobart
A marketing meeting this week with Twee, and David, a friend of Twee's and a business consultant, working through strategy for OsteoStrong™ and Longevity Lab together.
Longevity Lab Hobart
Plenty moving here. We're finalising the brand playbook, and the space has now been painted. Chelle has found some great dividers, which will work perfectly to wall off the HOCATT™ area. John is preparing the CRM, Sean remains really active across the space, Sarah is keeping an eye on ongoing marketing, and Ella is helping out too... a genuine team effort.
We're also exploring business-to-business breathwork opportunities, looking to bring in a commission salesperson, Twee, and on the hunt for the right lead for our VO2 max testing and training offering. More to come as these take shape.
A Straight Answer on Next50
I've been involved with Next50 from early on, as one of the health experts behind the formula. I sat down live recently with Guy Leech and Paul Wigger to talk through it properly, and I want to be upfront about where I stand. I'm a shareholder in Next50, not just an affiliate, so my financial interest goes beyond the usual referral arrangement. I wanted that clear before you look any further into it.

Podcast Highlight
EP451: Super Movers, Brains and Ageing
This one's about "super movers"... people who walk at a pace roughly 1.5 standard deviations faster than their age-matched peers. A recent study found this group carried a 51% lower risk of cognitive impairment, and a larger hippocampus to go with it. Interestingly, their brains still showed the usual markers of Alzheimer's pathology... it just didn't seem to touch them the same way. Fascinating listen, and a good nudge to think about your own walking pace as a vital sign.

Quiz Corner
Last week's answer
Coeliac disease, non-coeliac gluten sensitivity, and simple bloating after bread or a few beers are three genuinely different things. Coeliac disease is an autoimmune condition, where gluten triggers the immune system to damage the lining of the small intestine... it's diagnosed with blood tests and confirmed by biopsy, and needs strict, lifelong avoidance of gluten. Non-coeliac gluten sensitivity produces similar symptoms, bloating, fatigue, brain fog, but without the autoimmune damage or the antibodies... it's a diagnosis of exclusion, made once coeliac disease and wheat allergy have been ruled out. And then there's the everyday bloating a lot of people feel after bread or beer, which is more often about fermentable carbohydrates, yeast, or simply how much was eaten and drunk, rather than gluten at all.
So no, not everyone who bloats after bread needs to go gluten-free. It's worth working out which of the three you're actually dealing with before making a big dietary change.
This week's question
Name three substances in the body that are well demonstrated to decline with age, where supplementation may be genuinely valuable for healthy ageing. (Answer next week.)
Final Reflection
A van still finding its way west, a brand slowly taking shape, a family scattered across three states and one island nation... none of it moving fast, all of it moving forward. Ageing well, it turns out, has a lot in common with a long drive. It's not about speed. It's about staying pointed the right way, and not giving up when the road gets rough.
Warm regards, Dr Warrick
