Hi {contactfield=firstname},

From My Desk...

Each week, Iโ€™ll be sharing a little about whatโ€™s happening in my worldโ€”whether itโ€™s in my role as a cardiologist, the work Iโ€™m doing with the Healthy Heart Network and our new Healthy Life Network, or even personal updates from my family and life. My goal is to give you a closer look at whatโ€™s been keeping me busy, while also sharing tips and insights to help you on your own heart health journey. I hope you enjoy these updates and find them helpful as you strive to live well and stay healthy.

Hello and welcome to this week's Healthy Life Network.

A week of full circles... a father's story, a daughter's send-off, and a fair bit of quiet reflection along the way. Let's get into it.

Family & Personal Highlights

The standout moment of the week was getting to the University of the Third Age to hear Dad speak. Not about pulp and paper this time... about his own lived experience with Parkinson's, and the tools he's developed along the way to help other patients navigate the journey. Hearing him share it, and knowing how much of it comes from hard-won experience, made me very proud. He's turning something difficult into something genuinely useful for others.

Monday night we were out for Ally's sixtieth. Ally is one of Chelle's dear long-term friends, and it was a lovely night to celebrate her.

The following day I completed a forty-eight hour fast. No particular fanfare... just something I do periodically, and always worth the reset.

It was also my good friend Karam Kostner's birthday this week. We managed a phone call, and we'll catch up properly face to face in Queensland in the next few weeks.

Friday night was a special one... Chelle and I went to Ella and Tallam's farewell as they said their goodbyes to family and friends before setting off on their trip around Australia. Wonderful to see her this excited. I'm aware I'm going to miss her a great deal, but that's what happens when the people you love go and do something brave.

Then yesterday, Brown Bag Day. A small vineyard, about ten of us, and one of those rare chances for a group of blokes to sit, talk, and actually connect. Always more valuable than it sounds on paper.

Max continues to thrive up in Far North Queensland.

Chelle and I have also now committed to Date With Destiny in Miami this December. We went last year and it genuinely changed things for me. Airfares and logistics to follow shortly... I'm grateful Chelle wants to come along again..... she has also worked tirelessly across the businesses, and is doing an amazing job.

Professional & Business Updates

OsteoStrongโ„ข Hobart

Real traction building here. Chris our new marketing and sales person is doing a great job, and leads continue to come through with good quality. Sean continues to work well across both floors of the business, and is in the process of moving house at the moment... good timing, even if it doesn't always feel that way in the middle of it.

Longevity Lab

A hands-on week for me personally. With Sarah (our nurse) away and Sean otherwise committed, I found myself front and centre running the IV service on Thursday and Saturday. No trouble with the drips, no trouble drawing up the vitamins and minerals... where I needed a hand was the paperwork, and Sarah talked me through it by video call. Our members were wonderfully gracious about it, and it all went smoothly in the end. A good reminder of what actually goes into looking after people well.

On the space itself... we'd been planning permanent partitions with our builder for the HOCATTโ„ข and oxygen nanobubble spa area, but that path was becoming more trouble than it was worth. We've pivoted to temporary partitions instead, and we're getting the upstairs space painted properly, so it feels considered rather than the stark white it currently is. Chelle will be helping run that process. I think it's going to look excellent once it comes together.

Also worth mentioning... my conversation with Wendy Kennedy from Men's Sheds Tasmania has stayed with me this week. The more I sit with it, the more I can see real alignment between OsteoStrongโ„ข, Longevity Lab, and my own focus on cardiovascular prevention... a genuine opportunity to give the men in those sheds, and their families, better information and support.

Breath Lab

A quieter week on this front. Steady as always under Jen.

Quiz Corner

Last Week's Answer
The average age of menopause onset for Australian women sits around 51. In the lead-up, three of the most common symptoms are hot flushes and night sweats, irregular periods, and changes in mood or sleep.

This Week's Question
Fasting week. What are the suggested benefits of fasting across different time periods... say, a 16-hour overnight fast, a 24-hour fast, and something longer like the 48 hours I did this week? What changes in the body as the duration extends?
(Answers next week.)

Final Reflection

Watching your father teach and your daughter fly, in the same week, has a way of putting things in order. We spend so much energy building and striving. Every now and then, the job is simply to witness. To be proud, to let go, and to trust that the people we love are exactly where they need to be.
