From Warrick’s Desk...

Each week, I’ll be sharing a little about what’s happening in my world—whether it’s in my role as a cardiologist, the work I’m doing with the Healthy Heart Network and our new Healthy Life Network, or even personal updates from my family and life. My goal is to give you a closer look at what’s been keeping me busy, while also sharing tips and insights to help you on your own heart health journey. I hope you enjoy these updates and find them helpful as you strive to live well and stay healthy.

Hello and welcome to this week's Healthy Life Network.

A week of milestones, big and small... one marking sixty years, one marking a rather different birthday of my own, and real progress on tying up the pieces of Longevity Lab. Let's get into it.

Family & Personal Highlights

It's official... I received my seniors card this week. Makes you feel a bit old, but what do you do. Changing times.

We also made the trip up to Stanthorpe, Qld, for Karam Kostner's sixtieth birthday celebrations, held at Balancing Heart Winery. A wonderful few days... really good to spend proper time with Karam, his wife Michelle, and their family. We managed to knock over some of our CPD obligations while we were there too, and had some good conversations about future work and collaboration together.

Ella and Tallam have got the van sorted after their engine trouble, and are ready to get back on the road. Great Australian adventure, resumed.

Max is still up in Far North Queensland working as a concrete labourer and going well. He and Katie are both gearing up for Katie's scholarship placement in Timor-Leste... exciting times ahead for the pair of them.

I also joined Dr Ross Walker this week to talk through Cholesterol Explained, covering mitochondria and cholesterol. Great to reach a new audience with the book.

I'm due to catch up with OsteoPam again soon for the next round of pain for my calves. More to report later .........

Professional & Business Updates

OsteoStrong™ Hobart

Sean has moved house... busy times, but he's straight back into it. Plenty going on downstairs at the centre, including some recruiting, and we're starting to get things ready upstairs ahead of the HOCATT™ arrival.

Longevity Lab

We've settled on the name... Longevity Lab Hobart, where science meets wellbeing. Painters are in as planned on the 10th of August, bringing the new colour palette to life. The HOCATT™ unit itself remains on track to arrive around the 30th of August, and we'll be opening for expressions of interest soon after. VO2 Max testing and training continues to move forward, and marketing work continues in the background.

Breath Lab

Jen and I have been working through how best to structure our offerings. Twee Shaw will perhaps work with us and we're also moving forward with plans for the Longevity on Fire summit... more to come as that develops.

Also worth a mention... we've locked in a live video interview with Guy Leech and Paul Wigger from Next50, on the 11th of August. Next50 is a genuinely useful supplement, aimed at simplifying supplement selection for those of us navigating the complexities of ageing well. Keep an eye out... it'll be promoted once it's ready. Please join us or catch the replay.

Quiz Corner

Last Week's Answer

Both leukaemia and lymphoma are blood cancers, but they start in different places and behave differently. Leukaemia begins in the bone marrow, where abnormal white blood cells are produced and crowd out healthy ones. It's a "liquid" cancer... it moves through the bloodstream rather than forming solid tumours, and it's the most common blood cancer in children.

Lymphoma begins in the lymphatic system, when lymphocytes in the lymph nodes start multiplying out of control. It's a "solid" cancer... it typically shows up as tumours in the lymph nodes, and it's more common in adults. There are two main types: Hodgkin lymphoma, identified by a specific abnormal cell under the microscope, and non-Hodgkin lymphoma, which is far more common and spreads less predictably.

Related conditions, different diseases... which is exactly why they're treated so differently.

This Week's Question

Ozone therapy comes up more and more in recovery and wellness circles. Here are five benefits commonly claimed for it: immune support, improved circulation, pain and inflammation relief, faster wound healing, and slowing cellular ageing.

Three of these have genuine, if still early-stage, scientific backing. Two remain largely unproven. Can you pick which three... and why?

(Answer next week.)

Final Reflection

Sixty years, a seniors card, a name finally landed on... milestones come in all shapes. What struck me most this week wasn't any single event, but the thread running through all of them: showing up, putting in the work, and letting things settle into place in their own time. Karam's sixty years, earned with good humour and hard graft. A name for Longevity Lab that took months, not minutes, to get right. Worth remembering, when things feel slow... good things usually are.
